Ammos Terra Leone 2022
100% Agiorgitiko
When we talk about tradition in Nemea, our minds turn to the family and the Palivou Estate, where in 1995, George Palivou, with a love for wine and Agiorgitiko, started the business. The Palivou Estate, open to visitors, is located in the heart of Ancient Nemea (very close to the archaeological site) and boasts 300 acres of vineyards.
Ammos Terra Leone 2022 comes from a single vineyard in the Kokkinies area. It is 100% Agiorgitiko, aged for 14 months in new French oak barrels and amphorae. This was followed by 8 months in the bottle for reductive aging in the estate’s cellar before its release to the market.
It features a deep and impenetrable color, with blue-purple hues in the glass. Extroverted both on the nose and palate. It is distinguished by its youthful and expressive character with fruits like sour cherries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, and morello cherries, interwoven and intertwined with spices, vanilla, coffee, and bitter chocolate. Dare to decant it for 30+ minutes, where it will gain more complexity with mild granitic and floral elements, from violets and lavender. Its youthful acidity, firm tannins, and alcohol content give it significant aging potential.
The pleasure of wine tasting in the specially designed old train carriage at the winery, with its magnificent view, offers compelling reasons to visit the Estate. The new generation, with Vasiliki and Evangelia Palivou, will be there to guide you and initiate you into the world of wine.

Arthur Honegger
Pacific 231
The wine tasting in a train carriage, the direct, dynamic character of this pure Agiorgitiko, are not inconsistent with a journey on a train that is actually moving.
The musical depiction of railways has yielded fascinating results since the late 19th century, but the power of TERRA LEONE has something of the Herculean strength of a large steam locomotive, such as the Pacific 231 which in 1923 inspired the eponymous Symphonic Movement No. 1 (Mouvement Symphonique) by Arthur Honegger (1892-1955).
Programmatic music and a translation of visual impressions, the work can be heard either as a direct description or as a rendering of abstract ideas of horsepower and acceleration. Listening to it, one mentally enjoys a travel glass of wine in the restaurant car that magically transports them to the Palivou Estate in Nemea.
We recommend the interpretation by Jean Martinon with the Orchestre National de l’O.R.T.F. in 1971.
